PoC for AI-Based Translation Tool
Development of a Proof of Concept (PoC) for an internal translation tool using Microsoft Azure AI services to support multilingual documentation workflows within the Translation Office.
Automotive Client
2022
Client Description
A global technology company in the mobility sector, delivering systems and services for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and industrial applications. The client’s internal Translation Office required scalable NLP capabilities to improve efficiency and accuracy in handling technical documentation across multiple languages.
Problem
Lack of Intelligent Translation Workflow for Technical Documents
The Translation Office needed to modernize its internal workflows for translating large volumes of technical documents. Existing processes relied heavily on manual steps and lacked context-aware automation. Several AI providers had already been evaluated, but the Microsoft stack remained unexplored. The client required a Microsoft-based PoC to assess capabilities, performance, and integration potential within their IT landscape.
Solution
Azure-Based NLP Prototype for Enterprise Translation Use Case
A full-featured PoC was designed and implemented to demonstrate how Microsoft’s NLP tools could handle multilingual technical documents. The solution featured a dual-layer architecture:
A frontend built with Microsoft PowerApps, offering an intuitive UI for uploading and translating files.
A backend deployed on Azure, using Azure AI Services for translation, Azure Blob Storage for file handling, and secure API endpoints.
The prototype allowed users to upload documents and receive translated versions while maintaining formatting and contextual integrity. The implementation demonstrated feasibility, integration fit, and user experience, enabling the Translation Office to evaluate Microsoft as a viable provider.
Technologies & Frameworks
Cloud-Based NLP PoC with Microsoft Azure AI and PowerApps
Microsoft PowerApps – built the UI for document upload, translation requests, and result retrieval
Azure AI Services (Translator) – provided the core translation engine with multilingual support
Azure Blob Storage – handled secure document storage and lifecycle management
Azure Functions – orchestrated backend processes such as file processing and translation calls
Power Automate – linked components and enabled low-code orchestration
Azure Active Directory – enforced secure user authentication within the corporate network
